In March of 1974 an alpha-numeric system was established: The first character of the serial number indicated the decade 'G' for the 1970's, 'H' for the 1980's, etc. Serial numbers are typically longer and are comprised mostly of numbers. I bought it on Ebay as an 11M, advertiesed as a 1969. The Buescher Band Instrument Company was a manufacturer of musical instruments in Elkhart, Indiana, from 1894 to 1963. In MOST Buecher trumpets in the 1950s and earlier, you can find the serial number here as well. 1937, there is a grenade fruit ("pineapple") with a number inside it stamped on the horn's bell. Necks with serial numbers (= Martin, not Buescher), the style of the 'fin' (scalloped = Buescher beveled = Martin) on the bow guard provide good clues, and the round G# key on early saxes. We noticed at least one pad was loose and falling out and there may be others. This is a Martin C Melody Elkhart Low Pitch Saxophone w/Case.
